napari 0.4.15

We’re happy to announce the release of napari 0.4.15! napari is a fast, interactive, multi-dimensional image viewer for Python. It’s designed for browsing, annotating, and analyzing large multi-dimensional images. It’s built on top of Qt (for the GUI), vispy (for performant GPU-based rendering), and the scientific Python stack (numpy, scipy).

Following NumPy’s NEP-29 deprecation policy, this release drops support for Python 3.7, which enables us to simplify many code paths. From 0.4.15, napari supports Python 3.8, 3.9, and 3.10.

Highlights

This release is focused on documentation improvements and bug fixes, with few changes to napari’s API. The napari documentation is now entirely contained, built, and deployed within the napari repository (#4047, #4147, #4154). This and ongoing work will make it easier for the community to contribute documentation to the project and help others use napari.

We have added completely optional, opt-in error reporting via the package napari-error-reporter. If users install this third-party package, they will be presented with a dialog asking whether to opt-in to report errors to select napari core developers, which will help us prioritise and fix bugs that we might otherwise miss.
